Palmares Festival

Jaco Hotel's owner headed up to the Palmares Festival today. Every town in Costa Rica has an annual festival. (Jaco's is in early December.) The festivals typically involve a gran tope (horse parade), a rodeo, and some midway games and carnival rides. Palmares is on a different scale than most. Fifty thousand people a day desecend on the tiny town of Palmares during the week long fair. The beer company sets up huge portable buildings housing 2,000 or more people for live entertainment. And people drink beer. In fact, Palmares is in the top three events in the world for total alcohol consumption at an event. Octoberfest and Calgary stampede are the other two.
